Do we really need an occasion to wear something that makes us happy?

Whenever I buy new clothes, I start looking for any occasion to wear them. My standards for what counts as an occasion are extremely generous. Going to the movies? Perfect. Going to the supermarket? Also perfect. The cashier clearly didn't ask to see my new outfit, but they're going to. Period.

My friends tease me because I'll buy something and wear it all week. Well, I understand why they notice, but I don't see the problem! I was so excited about it that I wanted to spend money on it, so of course I want to enjoy it. I'm still in the stage where I catch my reflection and think, heck yeah, excellent purchase. Let me have this. I've never understood buying something I love only to wait and save it for a special day. I know myself. I don't like waiting to enjoy the stuff I buy.

However, I do have a special occasion coming up! My cousin's wedding. The dress code is "funky formal," which means we're encouraged to wear color, sparkle, and feathers. I totally LOVE this dress code because I usually try to work out if an outfit is too much, and this invitation is basically asking me if it's enough.

So I'm going to wear a lilac dress with a white feather boa I've already asked my friends to help me find. I like that the boa is a legitimate item on my wedding outfit. I already got the shoes and the dress; the only thing left to do is locate the feathers. I'll celebrate my cousin's marriage looking like I might perform a musical number! Which I might do at some point in the ceremony. Maybe after some drinks, who knows? Don't tempt me.

Knowing how I am with new garments, I'm wondering how long it'll take me to find another excuse to wear the boa afterward. I hope I find many other occasions! I certainly will. My friends already know what happens when I get attached to an accessory. It's like I become fixated. I'll abstain from going to the supermarket with a feathered boa, though. Don't worry, I won't do that.

All this to say… look at these tiny cats in tiny hats! They do fashion without needing any dress code. I love that they got dressed up for an ordinary day at home. It brings me to what I said just earlier: you don't need a special event to wear something you like. There doesn't need to be a party for you to dress nicely or to wear an accessory you like and feel pretty. If you feel like it, wear it!
Sometimes the occasion can simply be that there's a little hat, a little cat, and someone who thought those two things should meet. And that, my ladies, is fashion at its purest.
